Today, the 20th day of February in 1943, it was the eruption of the volcano Paricutin in Michoacán state, Mexico. the volcano cone rose to 2,280m above sea level and buried the entire village of Paricutin!

Also on this day 20/02 in 1962, John Herschel Glenn Jr became the first American to orbit the earth. Yuri gagarin of the Soviet Union had been the first man to travel in space in 1961, but John Herschel completed three orbits around the earth on this day in 1962!

On this same day, 20th February in 1971, Major General Idi Amin Dada, appointed himself the president of Uganda and chief of the armed forces. in two other shocking moves, he appointed himself field marshal in 1975 and life president in 1976!
