Today, the 17th day of February in 1876, the first canned sardine was produced in East port Maine by Julius Wolff. his invent invention followed the 1810 discovery of food canning by Nicola Appert under demand by Napoleon Benarpote to feed his battalion of soldiers!

Also on this day, 17/02 in 1992, the American terrorist and serial killer Jeffery Dahmer was convicted of serial murder and sentenced to 15 consecutive life terms. he was also accused of cannibalism and necrophilia. the 16th life term was added in May but was murdered by a fellow inmate in 1994!

on this same day, 17/02 in 1996, it was one of the greatest tsunami in Indonesia. Although, only 108 people died and 423 injured, but this was a mere preamble to a greater disaster of the December 2004 tsunami where at least 200,000 people were killed!
