Today, the 13th day of February in 1633, it was the trial of the Italian scientist Galileo Galilei in Rome. He was accused of professing and validating the belief of Nicolaus Coperniscus that the earth revolves around the Sun. He was consequently placed under house arrest indefinitely by pope Urban VIII!
Also on this day, 13/02 in 1861, Abraham Lincoln was declared President of United State. He was regarded as a courageous man, for in 1832, he lost in an assembly election, lost his sweetheart in 1835, his mother in 1839, lost in councelllorship in 1846 and again lost in senate election in 1858 and finally won the presidential election in 1860!
On this same day, 13th of February in 1976, Nigerian head of States, Brigadier Murtala Ramat (initially Rufai, but but changed to Ramat after becoming the head of state) Muhammad was assassinated in an abotive coup led byCol. Buka Suka Dimka alongside his Aide-De-Camp (ADC) – Lieutenant Akintunde Akinsehinwa at the age of 37. He had only spent less than a year in office after overthrowing Gen. Yakubu Gowon on July 29 1975!
